Subfossil lemur graph

Chart showing subfossil lemur survival dates suggested by radiocarbon dating relative to historical human activity.

Subfossil lemurs refers to any species of supposedly extinct, usually large lemur in any of three groups; sloth lemurs, monkey lemurs and koala lemurs. All were native to Madagascar.

Believed to have gone extinct fairly recently (see right), stories of their modern surival persist.
